Slow speakin’ Hendrix tells all

Anthony Hendrix, an affable guard at the Bellagio gate tower has proved himself a resident favorite. Working at this tower for 14 years, last December, the beloved guard gate was let go due to undisclosed reasons.
“I can’t talk about that,” said the tall, slender Hendrix. “That was part of the reason I got back here. I had to sign paper work that I wouldn’t say nothing about the situation.”
The only thing Hendrix would reveal was that “about 95% of the community rallied,” he commented slowly. “The longer it took, the more people found out what happened and the community got involved. After a bunch of meetings and arguing, they finally gave in,” he grinned.
Now, Hendrix is back in full force and the majority of the residents love his work, he explained. “I do my job, I don’t mess around,” he said seriously. “Everybody just likes the way I do my stuff.”
Working from 4pm – 12am 5 days a week, Hendrix says he’s busy most of the time. In the late hours of his shift he usually flips on his television to watch a number of crime shows.
Anthony, when not at work, is likely found in his downtown Hollywood studio. Wailing on his Strata Casta or chilling out to James Brown or other funkadelic masters, Hendrix is also considered a ‘delirious priest’ by his friends. He’s also the cousin of Jimi Hendrix, whom he knew when he was a boy.
“He [Jimi] is not the person everyone thought her was,” he commented. “[He] was very quiet. Nice. And always thinking,” he smiled cunningly.
“And he wasn’t no drug attic,” he boomed. “He was just like anyone else back then.”
And anybody like today, perhaps. Regardless, Anthony is happy to back at the gate, “ready to serve his residents,” as he said. Next time you pull up to Bellagio in Calabasas, throw old Raymond a shout. He’ll appreciate it. It’s the residents that make his job rewarding.
