By: Tomer and Isidora Fridman

Yesterday Emma Watson was spotted filming for ‘Bling Ring’ in Calabasas. The actress is most well-known for her role in Harry Potter but has acted in a few other movies since the series ended last summer. This movie depicts the true story of a group of teenagers that burglarized the homes of several celebrities from 2008 to 2009. The group of six stole approximately $3million in cash and other items. Celebrities such as Paris Hilton, Rachel Bilson and Lindsay Lohan were all victims of the Bling Ring.

Director Sofia Coppola, known for ‘Lost in Translation’, stated. “I’m excited about the young cast we’re assembling and I’m looking forward to shooting on location here in Los Angeles.” Other actors who have signed on for the movie include Leslie Mann and Israel Broussard. The movie is rumored to be released in 2013.

Future Me

A Letter to Your Future Self

By: Barbara Lipkin

Sometimes we wonder how we may feel years from now when we review our life experiences or perhaps a moment in time. Having just lost a dear friend yesterday, I am having difficulty getting around the thought that a healthy 47 year old mother of four could die so suddenly. My thoughts are all over the place.

Low and behold, I found a web site that is extremely interesting. You write a letter to yourself now, and www.futureme.org will deliver it by email on a date you choose-in a day, a year, or many years. I am going to send myself an email with memories of her. When I receive my email, I am sure I will be glad to receive it.

Huge Crowds Gather Outside of Apple Stores Today

Release of the iPad 3

By: Dana Olmes

Apple stores across the world today have been bombarded by excited fans in anticipation of the iPad 3, which was released at 8am this morning. Despite some controversy regarding Apple’s practices, the iPad 3 is expected to break sales records. Apple predicts that by the end of 2012, they will have sold 55 million of the new product which will add up to 100 million iPad sales in total.

Sales though, won’t be attributed to the average consumer only. Apple co-founder, Steve Wozniak waited in line at a Los Angeles store for the iPad 3 with his wife. He stated, “I wanna be one of the real people, who line up and wait all night…Apple’s just that important to us.” Others around the world seem to share the same sentiment. Stores near you, such as Sherman Oaks and Thousand Oaks are selling the new iPad on a first come, first serve basis so if you haven’t purchased one yet, hurry over!

Possible Link to Colic in Horses

Beware of Feeding Your Horse Coastal Bermuda Hay

By: Lauren Rauschenberg

There are many reasons and theories as to why horses colic.  My horse Luka recently had an ileal impaction.  The doctors suspect that the culprit was Bermuda hay.  Luka’s regular diet consists of Oat Hay/3-way hay and Alfalfa.  Due to the time of year, the hay was sour and Luka would not eat it.  He was given a replacement of Bermuda hay, a seemingly innocuous hay.

Luka has been all over the world and eaten all different types of food, so we were not concerned with changing his diet.  However, after a week in the hospital and almost losing Luka, we learned that Bermuda Hay has the reputation of causing colic and more specifically, an ileal impaction.  Just when we thought we knew everything about horses.  I am happy to report that Luka is home and feeling better.

Haven House of Los Angeles Receives Support

A Community Gives Back

By: Barbara Lipkin

Sometimes it is the little things in life that make you feel good. Having collected samples of toiletries and makeup for a while, I realized that the person to whom I dropped off items for Haven House, a haven for abused women and their children, was no longer accessible. I sent out an email to my office and the response was overwhelming. One of our marketing gurus, Randall, contacted me immediately. While a student at Pepperdine, he had done some work for the organization and was very impressed. One of my friends had just gone to Las Vegas and came back with great stuff. Bags appeared in my office. My daughter, Michele, sent out an email to friends and clients. Two enormous bags were dropped off today including one from a friend who is a hairdresser to the stars. Everyone pitched in.

When I dropped the bags off today, they were delighted. They need lots of things since women and their children leave their homes with nothing but the clothes on their back. Thank you to all of you who contributed. You have made my day.

Burglaries in West Valley Los Angeles

Protect Yourself Against the Most Recent Burglar MOs

By: Barbara Lipkin

According to the LAPD, burglaries have become more frequent in the West Valley area and 7-8 have been via doggie doors. Police stated that burglars often spray dogs with some form of mace when they break in. Home owners should consider investing in secure doggie doors that will prevent future burglaries.

Also, burglars have taken advantage of second story homes by using residents’ ladders to climb to an upstairs window. These windows are often not wired to set off alarms so a break-in will go undetected. In multiple cases, homeowners have not been setting their alarms which creates an even easier entry for potential burglars.

Please take precautions to keep your home safe.
